Wooden chopping boards make excellent worktop savers and protect your kitchen surfaces throughout all your cutting, chopping, carving and slicing tasks.

Although they are not in the same category as traditional worktop savers or surface protectors, they are still an invaluable addition to your kitchen for all your food preparation.

Wooden chopping and cutting boards are available in a wide range of timbers

including beech, oak, maple, hevea wood, mahogany, rubber wood and olive wood.

They are also available in bamboo which is actually a grass but has all the durability and strength qualities of wood.

It’s worth bearing in mind that wooden boards are not dishwasher safe and will need to be cleaned with very hot water, sanitising spray or a mild detergent.

However they are very robust and will last for many years if looked after properly - they will also need to be oiled on a regular basis to protect and maintain the wood.

Wooden chopping boards are also much more friendly to your knives - most worktop savers are made of toughened glass which will blunt a knife much quicker than a wooden board.

Many kitchen enthusiasts have a glass worktop saver in their home for simple cutting tasks and preparing snacks, but also invest in a wooden chopping board for more demanding food preparation tasks.
